The SEO Kid started in 2018 in Waverly, Minnesota - a town of about 1,200 people where nobody was searching for an SEO agency but plenty of local businesses were invisible on Google.
The name was deliberate. There is a specific attitude toward SEO that drives me genuinely crazy: the idea that it should be opaque, that clients should just trust the numbers in the report without understanding what they mean or how they got there. The name was a statement of intent. We explain things plainly. We show our work.
We now have seven people. We work with local businesses, e-commerce brands, and regional service companies. We have clients from Minnesota to California. We do not take every enquiry and we try to be honest upfront about whether SEO is the right priority for a given business at a given time. Sometimes it is not. We have turned down clients who came to us with a broken product and expected search traffic to fix it.
Our retention rate is high because we do not over-promise at the start and we communicate clearly when something is not working. Clients who leave usually do so because their business changed, not because they were unhappy with results.
We are not the biggest SEO agency you will find. That is intentional.
